A wedding, prom, christening or important event – how to prepare your skin and what to discuss with your make-up artist so you look and feel wonderful.
Some days we want to remember for ever – and to look in the photos exactly the way we feel: beautiful, relaxed, glowing. Professional make-up is a way to bring out the very best in you without having to think about it all day. And a little preparation makes the result even lovelier.
Start with your skin
Make-up looks its best on well-cared-for skin. A few weeks before the event:
- Moisturise regularly – morning and night, with products your skin already knows.
- Don't experiment with new creams, masks or harsh treatments just before the big day – unexpected irritation is the last thing you need.
- Protect your skin from the sun – sunburnt or peeling skin is hard to make up.
- Sleep well and drink water – simple habits show on your face.
If you're considering a treatment such as a carbon peel, schedule it well before the event and talk to us about the right timing.
The trial – your peace of mind
For especially important occasions such as a wedding, we recommend a make-up trial. It lets us try different looks, see how the make-up photographs and how you feel wearing it. That way there are no surprises on the day – only enjoyment.
A trial is also a great chance to see how the make-up wears on your skin. Keep it on for a few hours, take photos in daylight and artificial light, and tell us what you think – so we can fine-tune every detail.
What to discuss with your make-up artist
- The occasion and the time of day – a daytime event and an evening ball call for different intensity.
- Your outfit and hairstyle – bring a photo of the dress, or at least its colour.
- Your inspiration – pictures of looks you love help a lot, just remember that make-up is always adapted to your own face.
- Sensitivities and allergies – do mention it if your skin or eyes react to certain products, or if you wear contact lenses.
- What you don't like – sometimes that matters just as much as what you do.
On the day
Arrive with a clean face
Wash your face and apply a light moisturiser. Avoid heavy, rich products right before your make-up.
Dress comfortably
Wear a top that buttons or zips at the front so you don't have to pull anything over your head afterwards.
Plan your time
Allow plenty of time so you never feel rushed. If your hair is being done the same day, agree on the order in advance. Calm shows on your face – and in your photos.
Pack a small bag
A lipstick or gloss in the shade you're wearing and a few blotting papers are all you need for touch-ups during the day.
The most beautiful make-up is the kind that makes you feel like the best version of yourself.
