Pedicure: a necessity, not a luxury

3 min readMarta Gercheva

Regular pedicures are about the health and comfort of your feet, not just their looks. Here is why – and how to care for cracked heels.

Our feet carry us all day long – over cobblestones, up and down stairs, in tight shoes and high heels. And yet we often only think of them when sandal season comes around. The truth is that a regular pedicure isn't an indulgence; it is care that makes every step feel lighter.

More than pretty toenails

A professional pedicure has both an aesthetic and a practical side:

  • Correct nail shaping – cutting straight across reduces the risk of a nail starting to grow into the skin.
  • Removing hard skin – thickened skin on the heels and the balls of the feet can become dry, rough and prone to cracking.
  • Cuticle care – gentle work keeps the area around the nail clean and neat.
  • An eye for detail – during the treatment, changes get noticed that you might otherwise miss.

Cracked heels – a common complaint

Dry skin on the heels is something a great many people deal with. The causes vary: standing for long periods, open-backed shoes, dry air, skin that simply isn't moisturised enough. When hard skin loses its elasticity, it starts to split – sometimes painfully.

How a cracked heel treatment helps

At the studio we offer a dedicated therapy for cracked heels: the hardened skin is carefully removed, then the skin is nourished and softened. The aim is smoother, more comfortable heels. For more pronounced cracking, several sessions combined with home care are usually needed.

Caring for your feet at home

  1. Apply a nourishing foot cream every evening – richer than your usual body lotion.
  2. Avoid aggressive scraping with rough tools; it can irritate the skin and make it even harder.
  3. Wear comfortable shoes that support the heel.
  4. Drink enough water – hydration starts from within.

If cracks are deep, bleeding or red, please see a doctor. If you have diabetes or circulation problems, foot care calls for extra caution and advice from a specialist.

Gel polish pedicure and relaxing foot therapy

A gel polish pedicure is a wonderful choice for summer and holidays – on the toes, the coating usually lasts longer than on the hands, because toenails grow more slowly and take less wear. And if you're looking for a moment just for yourself, our relaxing foot therapy pairs skin care with a soothing massage that melts away a long day.

How often should you have a pedicure?

As a general guide, most clients come every 4–6 weeks, and more often in summer. The right rhythm depends on how quickly your nails grow, the shoes you wear and the condition of your skin.

Caring for your feet is caring for your whole self – they carry you towards everything you love.
