What the Magic Shading technique is, how the procedure goes, what to expect in the days afterwards and how to care for your new brows.
Mornings without a brow pencil, a face that looks fresh and polished the moment you open your eyes – that is why so many women are curious about permanent brow make-up. Magic Shading is a technique that creates a soft, powdery effect, much like delicately applied brow shadow. Here is what you should know before you decide.
What is Magic Shading?
Magic Shading is a permanent make-up technique in which pigment is placed into the upper layers of the skin in tiny dots. This creates a smooth gradient – lighter at the front of the brow and richer towards the tail. The result is a soft, powdered look that frames the face without appearing heavy or artificial.
How the procedure goes
- Consultation – we talk through the shape and intensity you'd like and look at your natural brows and skin tone.
- Mapping the shape – before we begin, we draw the brows on and adjust them until you are completely happy with the shape.
- Choosing the pigment – the shade is matched to your hair, your brows and the undertone of your skin.
- The treatment itself – pigment is built up gradually, layer by layer, for an even result.
What to expect afterwards
Straight after the treatment, your brows will look darker and bolder than they will in the end – that's completely normal. During the first week the skin heals and may flake slightly, and the colour can temporarily look patchy or faded. Gradually the pigment settles and reveals its final shade. So try not to judge the result in the first few days – the true picture only appears once the skin has fully healed and the touch-up is done.
As a general guide, a touch-up is done about 4–6 weeks after the first session to fill in any areas where the pigment has held less well. Results typically last 1–2 years, depending on your skin type, aftercare and lifestyle.
Aftercare
- Don't wet or rub your brows during the first few days unless you've been told otherwise.
- Don't pick at scabs or flakes – let them fall away on their own.
- Avoid make-up on the area, saunas, swimming pools and intense workouts until the skin has healed.
- Keep your brows out of direct sun and away from sunbeds; later on, use sun protection.
- Follow the aftercare instructions you'll be given at the studio.
When the treatment isn't suitable
Permanent make-up isn't carried out during pregnancy or breastfeeding, on active inflammation or irritation in the area, if you are prone to keloid scarring, or with certain health conditions and medications. If you have a chronic condition, take regular medication or simply aren't sure whether the treatment is right for you, please consult a doctor beforehand.
Well-done brows don't draw attention to themselves – they simply make your face look rested and balanced.
