A carbon peel is a laser treatment that cleanses and refreshes the skin. What it involves, who it suits and how to look after your skin afterwards.
Some days your skin simply looks tired – pores seem more visible, your complexion is dull and make-up doesn't sit the way you'd like. The carbon peel, sometimes called the “Hollywood peel”, is a treatment many people choose for exactly those moments, when they want a fresh, clear face without a long recovery.
What is a carbon peel?
The treatment has several stages. First the skin is cleansed, then a thin layer of a special carbon gel is applied to the face. It settles into the surface of the pores and binds excess sebum and impurities. Next, the laser passes over the skin, heating the carbon particles and breaking them up – lifting away impurities with them and refreshing the surface layer of skin.
Most people describe the sensation as gentle warmth and light prickling, and there's no lengthy downtime afterwards.
Who is it for?
A carbon peel is a good choice if:
- your skin is oily or combination and quickly turns shiny;
- your pores look enlarged;
- your complexion is dull and you'd like it to look brighter;
- you want a refreshing treatment before a special occasion.
If you have a skin condition such as acne or pigmentation, the treatment may be part of your routine, but it is no substitute for seeing a dermatologist. If in doubt, ask a specialist.
What to expect
Many people notice fresher, smoother-looking skin straight after the session. Your face may look slightly flushed for a short while. For a more noticeable and lasting result, a course of several treatments at set intervals is usually recommended – the interval is tailored to your skin.
Every skin responds in its own way. That's why, before your first session, we always talk about your skin type, the products you use and what you hope to achieve – and decide together whether this is the right choice and how many sessions make sense.
Preparation and aftercare
Before the treatment
- Avoid sun exposure and sunbeds in the days beforehand.
- Let us know if you use retinoids, acids or other active skincare, and if you take any medication.
- Come without make-up, or allow time for cleansing at the studio.
After the treatment
- Wear sunscreen every day – this is the single most important step.
- Keep your skin hydrated with gentle, non-aggressive products.
- Skip peels, scrubs and saunas for a few days.
When it isn't suitable
Laser treatments aren't carried out during pregnancy, on active inflammation, wounds or skin infections, on a fresh tan, or while taking certain medications that increase sensitivity to light. If you have a chronic skin condition or are unsure, please consult a doctor before booking.
Radiant skin isn't about filters – it is the reward for steady, thoughtful care.
